There's more to celebrate on the night than the category awards!
Alongside the professional and emerging categories, the jury has selected four special awards, revealed only on the night - no finalists announced in advance. Each recognises something that sets a space apart. While every entry was considered, the organisers can confirm that for this inaugural edition, all four winners are drawn from their existing finalists.
The Kōtuitui Award, presented by Jade Kake on behalf of the jury
Kōtuitui speaks to weaving and interlinking - the bringing together of threads into something whole. This award recognises a project that gives practical expression to mātauranga Māori, or that interweaves Māori, Pākehā and other worldviews to contribute to and shape contemporary Aotearoa New Zealand design culture and identity.
The Community Award, presented by Lexus
Recognising a project that creates genuine, lasting value for the community it serves - where design makes a difference beyond the brief. The winner receives a $500 donation to the community their project supported.
The Colour Award, presented by Dulux
Celebrating the most considered and confident use of colour across the entries. The winner receives a $1,500 Dulux Trade voucher.
The Luminance Award, presented by LightCo
Recognising the project where lighting transforms the experience of a space. The winner receives return airfares and two nights' accommodation for one to Sydney for Saturday Indesign, plus the opportunity to collaborate with LightCo.
