For years, Kiwis have debated the proper way to make Original Kiwi Dip. Now, new research from Maggi has delivered a clear winner, with 43.2% backing lemon juice over vinegar.
The survey found Team Lemon comfortably ahead of Team Vinegar or Malt (38.1%), although one in five Kiwis say neither ingredient belongs in the iconic dip. A further 3% have gone completely off-script, adding ingredients such as brown sugar, BBQ sauce and Worcestershire sauce.
Nestlé New Zealand Head of Marketing Foods, Fern Castellanos said, " Original Kiwi Dip has been part of Kiwi gatherings for generations - and we love how Kiwis have made it their own. While Kiwis may never agree on whether lemon or vinegar is the right choice, that friendly debate is part of what makes Original Kiwi Dip so uniquely Kiwi.”
The survey lifted the lid on all the rituals when it comes to the summer staple, including:
· 41.4% have debated with family or friends about how Original Kiwi Dip should be made
· 18% admit to double-dipping in front of strangers, including 6% who have done it when they thought nobody was watching
· 35.8% say Original Kiwi Dip should be left exactly as it is, while 41.2% have considered adding spring onions for a little kick
· 14% serve their dip at room temperature
· 64.8% believe every Kiwi should try Original Kiwi Dip at least once
· 67.8% have used Original Kiwi Dip as part of another meal or recipe, including in mashed potatoes, on burger buns, cheese rolls and toasties
Original Kiwi Dip is made with Nestlé Reduced Cream, Maggi Onion Soup and 1 tsp of vinegar or lemon juice and is available in supermarkets nationwide.
