School Strike 4 Climate NZ and Fridays For Future NZ announce a nationwide climate strike on Friday 26 May.
There will be events held right across the motu. This strike is a call for urgent and meaningful action on the climate crisis, which affects everyone's futures, livelihoods, and very existence.
"We will not back down. Our elected representatives need to show us transformational and immediate action that safeguards our futures on this planet. We know we’re in the midst of a climate emergency, with Parliament having declared so too. Inaction is not acceptable. Nothing else will matter if we cannot look after the Earth for current and future generations. This is our home," says Sophie Handford from SS4C.
The strike on May 26th is a continuation of the student-led climate strikes that have taken place around the world and in Aotearoa New Zealand, as recently as 3rd March. The strike aims to raise the call that this election must be a climate election, one in which politicians prioritize the climate crisis and take concrete steps to address it.
"We have seen the devastation that climate change can cause, and we cannot afford to wait any longer. We must do everything in our power before it is too late," says Aurora Garner-Randolph from SS4C.
SS4C NZ and FFF NZ are calling on all generations to join the strike, and show their support for climate justice. Everyone is invited to be a part of this momentum for a better, brighter future.

Organizers say this is not the last we will see of the movement this year, and that they are only just getting started. Demands are currently being finalized.
