As we (sadly) leave behind summer’s long, languid days and emerge from our seasonal ennui to face our full potential once more, New Zealand label moochi asks: what’s your why?
The answer can be found in palette one: resonate, a brave, eclectic, yet single-minded collection from moochi that seeks to remind us who we are, and embolden us to be who we want to be.
Captured here by award-winning photographer Toaki Okano, palette one: resonate comes to life against a backdrop of Auckland’s silo park and its surrounds. The idea is that where undulating concrete forms might indicate life’s curveballs, a combination of smooth and textured slabs and surfaces speaks to structure and stability.
We see the modern romance of moochi faithfuls, and the off-duty ease of moochi six and seven, for a collection that celebrates plurality – of tone, texture, print and pattern, of influences and ideas. Far from chaos and discord, however, it is informed by careful, harmonious design in both concept and execution. Classical colour theory does much of the heavy lifting as complementary autumnal hues of inky teal blue, vibrant cornflower and burnt orange dominate, while moody eucalyptus greens, chestnut brown, grey marle and Chantilly cream stake their claim as the season’s new neutrals.
Readying us for the inevitable transition from late summer to early autumn, layering pieces form the foundations of palette one, at the same time providing an early opportunity to experiment with the season’s key trends. The likes of plaid, stripe and houndstooth are made modern by way of oversized, elongated silhouettes, while paisley prints, soft florals and chiffon checks offer a romantic, feminine foil to androgynous autumn staples.
Later in the palette, Sherpa-like furs, alpaca blend knitwear, quilting detailing and tapestry print-inspired pieces pull focus, as a drop in temperature is met with tactile outerwear and cosy colour stories designed to enrich your existing wardrobe.
