After more than two years of design development and company-wide sustainability analysis, Kathryn Wilson today has announced her partnership with New Zealand corporate climate action business, CarbonClick.
To enhance the CarbonClick partnership, the Freemans Bay local is pre-releasing a new collection of eco-friendly sneakers, aptly named KIND, made with low-impact materials such as recycled leather and recycled plastic bottles.
CarbonClick is a New Zealand-founded and run company, offering businesses opportunities to reduce their carbon emissions through offsetting projects to help restore and protect New Zealand forests. The designer and CarbonClick have been working together for the past 12 months highlighting a customer-driven option through Kathryn’s online store where carbon offsets can be activated by the purchaser.
Through the new KIND partnership with CarbonClick, Kathryn will be donating $10 from every pair of KIND collection shoes sold towards the Kaikoura project, helping to conserve and re-plant 99 hectares of lush native forest by increasing biodiversity and drawing down carbon. The amount of carbon off-set by this first New Zealand forest planting initiative will be in excess of 100 tonnes, with plans for year-round CarbonClick initiatives to continue, increasing this off-setting program.
The brand new KIND collection has been consciously crafted using lower impact materials, such as Global Recycling Standard certified recycled leather and fly-knit uppers made from recycled plastic bottles. It also looks gorgeous, and is guaranteed to rush out the doors of Kathryn’s Herne Bay boutique, amongst other outlets.
The development of these three styles has been a two year project for Kathryn Wilson footwear and is the beginning of the company’s sustainability journey.
Founder and CEO Kathryn says: “Small steps made frequently can have an enormous impact over time and we believe it’s about doing things better and constantly improving our positive impact with a considered selection of manufacturing components and the methods used to produce our footwear designs. My whole team are so invested in the CarbonClick and KIND projects, which inspires me to grow this part of our business even more.”
