Calling on Aucklanders to support Pink Ribbon Street Appeal this week

Breast Cancer Foundation NZ is asking Aucklanders to donate generously to its Pink Ribbon Street Appeal this week.

People can also support the appeal online at www.bcf.org.nz/streetappeal20 or by texting PINK to 4499 to make a $3 donation.

Each year, around 1,025 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Greater Auckland and sadly every year we still lose around 175 there to breast cancer.

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff, who will be collecting for the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal at the corner of Queen Street and Victoria Street West on Friday 30 October, 1:15pm to 1:45pm, encourages everyone to donate generously: “Thousands of people in New Zealand are affected by breast cancer every year, as are their families, friends and communities. Please support Breast Cancer Foundation NZ to raise money to help those in need and work towards their goal of reducing deaths from this disease.”

Evangelia Henderson, chief executive of Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, said: “It’s been a tough year for everyone and we know Covid-19 has made life harder for people affected by breast cancer. We never imagined we’d be launching this year’s appeal in the middle of a global pandemic, but we hope the people of Auckland will show some love this October by donating generously.

“The money raised will fund our vital work in education, research, and patient support. We’ve been blown away by the community spirit New Zealanders have shown this year, it’s their kindness that will take us one step closer to making zero deaths from breast cancer a reality.”
