How to get you MemphisQue fix when you can't get to Memphis

With international travel off the cards for a while, the far-flung dreams – and tastes – of many of us are on hold. But one thing you don’t have to wait for is traditional Memphis style barbecue.

Renowned for what is considered the world’s best barbecue, Memphis is a city of truly great food and it has inspired a legion of fans and Chefs around the globe. Here in New Zealand, the iconic Morepork BBQ offers an extensive menu of authentic ‘low and slow’ southern style barbecue including whole brisket for those looking to splash out, and southern style pork ribs.

Owner and Pitmaster Clint Davies, says that Memphis is certainly an inspiration for their style of cooking. “I have worked in kitchens all over the world, and over the years have fallen in love with the flavours of southern style barbecue. Memphis is renowned for it barbecue scene, and I wanted to bring that sort of love for the cuisine to those here in New Zealand. Our tender smoked meat and ribs are created with the southern style flavours we love so much, and are sure to transport those who try them to the city of Memphis itself – one bite at a time.”

Australia and NZ Director Chris Ingram says that Morepork BBQ is a venue of choice when eating in Memphis isn’t an option. “As a Memphis devotee, one of my favourite things about the destination is the food – and if I can’t eat there, I eat at my local Morepork BBQ in Ponsonby.”

To celebrate the great tastes of Memphis, Morepork BBQ is offering one lucky person the chance to win a feast for four, with choice of dine in or takeaway at either of the Morepork BBQ Ponsonby or Kumeu location. The winner will be able to eat until their heart is content and their stomach is filled with delicious barbecue, choosing anything they wish to feast on from the Morepork BBQ menu.

Think delicious ribs, whole brisket, pork belly and all the trimmings you’d expect to find in a traditional Memphis ‘que joint.

To enter, barbecue fans need to simply like the competition post found on both the Morepork BBQ and the Souled on Memphis (Travel Company) Facebook accounts, along with tagging the friends they would share this feast for four with, for the chance to win. Competition posts will be live from Tuesday, 29 September at 12pm (NZST).
