Starring Jackie Clarke, directed by Jennifer Ward-Lealand and with live piano accompaniment by Penny Dodd, Songs for Nobodies brings together three of New Zealand’s most prominent theatrical forces to create an unforgettable production. Playing at Q Theatre from the 28 October - 1 November, this is a strictly limited run of five shows only.
Songs for Nobodies takes you on a journey of discovery, looking behind the curtain at some of the most legendary singers of all time: Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday and Maria Callas. Jackie Clarke showcases her exceptional versatility and dramatic range, portraying 10 distinct characters through the course of the show, and performing beloved songs "Come Rain or Come Shine," "Crazy," "Ain’t Nobody’s Business If I Do," "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien," and more.
Written by award-winning playwright Joanna Murray-Smith, the play focuses on the lives of five everyday women who have chance encounters with these legendary singers. These ordinary women, the kind who might consider themselves “nobodies”, each find their lives touched through song. This is a play of inspiration and resilience and showcases Jackie Clarke at her absolute best.
“Clarke’s voice is always stunning, but I don’t think I have ever seen her range or versatility displayed in quite this way before” - Andrew Whiteside
“We have world-class right here in Aotearoa and it needs to be acknowledged…our world-class star is Jackie Clarke” - Broadway World
Songs for Nobodies is produced by Callum Brodie and is presented by Figment Productions with Q Season Support.
