The gumdrop’s out of the bag. Whittaker's has revealed its most playful block yet: the Limited Edition Whittaker's Gumdrop Block.
Made with Whittaker's 28% cocoa White Chocolate combined with bubblegum flavour, the new block features colourful, chewy gumdrops hidden throughout like buried treasure. With five fruity gumdrop flavours, no two squares are quite the same.
It’s a taste that’s sure to transport Chocolate Lovers back to the ice-cream cabinets of their childhood, and there's a seriously sweet way to try it first. Whittaker's has teamed up with Duck Island Ice Cream on Bubble Gumdrop, a limited-edition flavour made with the new block.
Here's the inside scoop: Chocolate Lovers can get an exclusive first-taste of Gumdrop Block by heading to their local Duck Island store on World Ice Cream Day this Sunday 19 July, a full day before the block arrives on supermarket shelves. The first 50 customers at each Duck Island store nationwide will get a free scoop of Bubble Gumdrop and a complimentary Gumdrop Block.
Whittaker's Chief Marketing Officer Soraya Cottin says Gumdrop Block is one of the brand's most unexpected Limited Editions yet.
"We know our Chocolate Lovers enjoy seeing us push into new flavour territory, particularly with our Limited Editions," says Cottin. "Gumdrop Block has got to be Whittaker’s at its most playful. It’s a flavour that's a little unexpected, very nostalgic, and unlike anything we've released before.”
"And of course, Duck Island is known for creating some of New Zealand's most premium and imaginative ice cream, so they were the perfect partner to help bring Gumdrop Block to life. We’ve had a lot of fun developing together." Cottin concludes.
While the Bubble Gumdrop ice cream is the first time Whittaker's and Duck Island have officially created a product together, the collaboration builds on a relationship that's been more than a decade in the making.
"We've been using Whittaker's chocolate in our ice cream since we opened our doors eleven years ago, so building this flavour alongside Whittaker's felt pretty special," says Duck Island Flavour Development Director Morgan Glass
"Bubble Gumdrop mixes pieces of Whittaker’s Gumdrop Block through a bubblegum ice cream base, with gumdrops scattered throughout. It's a playful flavour that perfectly captures the spirit of the new block."
Whittaker’s Limited Edition Gumdrop Block hits shelves from Monday 20 July, available while stocks last. Bubble Gumdrop will be scooping at Duck Island stores nationwide from Sunday 19 July for around a month, or until sold out.
Like all Whittaker's chocolate, Gumdrop Block is crafted bean-to-bar in Porirua using 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa beans and is proudly palm oil free.
