adidas is teaming up with iconic Grey Lynn pizzeria Brave to launch the adidas Carb-Loading Club, a pre-race pit stop open to the public for one night only on Saturday 31 October, the eve of the Auckland Marathon.
The hearty hero of the collab is the adidas Carb-Load Pizza [$37], a one-off special created by Brave chef and owner Tom Thurston, who hit Auckland’s running routes to quiz athletes on their ultimate pre-race feasts. The result: creamy garlic sauce, bacon, thinly sliced roast potato, spring onion, chives, mozzarella and parmigiano, all on Brave’s signature 16-inch New York-style base, made from 48-hour slow-fermented dough and fired in a high-temperature oven. Runners, supporters and anyone who loves a good pizza can come down to order on Saturday night, with the first 20 people to purchase the adidas Carb-Load Pizza scoring adidas merch.
“Marathon eve has its own kind of energy, and carbs are a big part of it,” says adidas Pacific
General Manager, Rachel Howard. “This takeover is our way of celebrating that moment with the
whole city, whether you’re lacing up, cheering on or just hungry.” “I’ve been encouraging people to eat potato on pizza for years. All it took was a marathon,” says Tom. “Turns out runners are my kind of people. Bam!”
The adidas Carb-Load Pizza is only available at the adidas Carb-Loading Club from 5pm to 9pm
on Saturday 31 October at Brave Pizza, 410 Great North Road, Grey Lynn,
