A Certain Style - an exhibition of fashion by Ponsonby resident Bruce Papas

BP gown with handpainted maidenhair fern circa 1953

He was trained in fashion design by our most famous madam, Flora Mackenzie who, before she diversified, was a couturier to the well-heeled of Auckland. Bruce also had a salon called Staevro Gowns at the family home in Redmond Street in the 1950s before he became the designer at Milne & Choyce Department store on Queen Street.

The Museum will be showing his gowns and dresses, sketches and embroideries. The exhibition runs from 19 March to 1 April 2017.
