Lime – the world’s largest shared electric scooter and bike company,launched its ‘Lime Parking Wardens’ program this month to improve vehicle parking in streets across Auckland. The New Zealand-first program rewards Lime e-scooter and e-bike riders who park responsibly with time off their next ride.
As part of Lime’s commitment to safe and considerate parking, parking wardens have been stationed near high-traffic areas such as Queen St, Britomart and Wynyard Quarter. Wardens congratulate riders who park respectfully with ‘Good Parking Notices’ to incentivise continued responsible parking.
Six lucky riders will also receive a ‘Green Ticket’ that includes a $150 voucher for Khu Khu, a locally owned vegan Thai eatery, as a show of support to local businesses across the City.
As well as acknowledging respectful e-scooter/e-bike parking practices, the ‘Good Parking Notices’ initiative aims to help educate – or remind – riders on what constitutes considerate parking, such as:
Park to the side of footpaths, without blocking businesses, or emergency exits.
Never park in the middle of footpaths, cycleways, on the road in a way that would hinder pedestrian traffic or on the corner of an intersection.
Hugo Burt Morris, General Manager Lime ANZ said: “Responsible parking is an incredibly important part of making sure our service works for everyone who uses our streets. We know most of our Auckland riders park responsibly and want to thank them. Introducing parking wardens enables us to reward our customers and help them better understand what constitutes responsible parking, and why it’s so essential to ensure our service is inclusive. Our increased foot patrol also lets us correct any incidents of misparking in a time-efficient manner, to make all journeys more efficient and enjoyable for all.”
This month, Lime has also hosted their famous First Ride Academies at Wynyard Quarter and Commercial Bay to teach new riders or visitors to Auckland how to safely operate and park a Lime e-scooter or e-bike. Attendees also received a discount on their next ride.
To further help ensure its e-scooters and e-bikes are parked responsibly, Lime has several other measures in place, including an end-of-trip photo that is monitored by a local team; issuing $50 fines to those who mispark and banning repeat offenders from using its service; and rapidly (i.e. within an hour) removing any vehicles reported as parked inconsiderately.

Since Lime launched in Auckland in 2018, nearly 800,000 Aucklanders and visitors have taken almost 5 million trips on Lime vehicles with over 1.4 million rides taking place in 2023. Riders have travelled over 7 million kilometres, saving up to 3000 metric tons of carbon emissions and over 560 tons in 2023.
