Literature to uplift and empower - The Aesop Queer Library - 2024

Founded on a belief in the transformative power of queer storytelling, the Aesop Queer Library will make its debut in New Zealand to coincide with Auckland Pride.

From 16-18 February, Aesop Ponsonby will showcase a selection of titles by LGBTQIA+ authors. Visitors are invited to discover literature that uplifts and inspires, and choose a complimentary book to cherish, share and discuss.

Following similar ephemeral openings in seven countries around the world since 2021, the Ponsonby branch of the Aesop Queer Library continues to platform a diverse range of queer voices, extending the selection to include a wider representation of BIPOC, trans and gender non- conforming authors.

The focus in Auckland is on contemporary stories that empower, and writers of the current and the next generations who are challenging boundaries and shifting the narrative for positive change.

The Aesop Queer Library is also having its third iteration in Australia, opening at Aesop QV in Melbourne from 7-11 February and Aesop Bondi Junction in Sydney from 28 February – 3 March.

By celebrating New Zealand and Australian LGBTQIA+ voices that are underheard on the global stage, these branches of the Aesop Queer Library will help carve out space for their stories in publishing and beyond.

The volumes on display at Aesop Ponsonby have been purchased from local independent purveyor
