Ponsonby-based indie Magnum recently celebrated a milestone few agencies reach – 40 years in business.
It’s marking the anniversary with something almost as rare: a transition between generations.
Founded by Dennis Simpson, Magnum is now managed in partnership with daughter Maddy, who returned from a stint in global marketing with Hewlett-Packard to immerse herself in the business
Maddy Simpson says the agency has always placed huge emphasis on building long-term relationships: “We’re incredibly proud of the work our team have delivered in partnership with clients like Porsche, Ignite and HP across Australia and New Zealand. Anyone who knows Dennis will know how committed he is to helping our clients get results, year in and year out.”
Magnum started as a print management business and morphed into an ad agency at the request of clients, kicking off with Microsoft when they launched Windows 2000. Since then, the business has evolved into a full-service design, content creation and brand agency with an agile team of employees and trusted suppliers.
“We’ve tended to fly under the radar,” says Maddy. “It comes from the way Dennis has always done business – he prefers to let the work do the talking.
“That said, you don’t see many agencies go the distance for 40 years. I’m proud of what’s been achieved and excited by the opportunities ahead.”
