Mind-Body Martial Art Practice Now Available at Grey Lynn.
The Association of Ki and Aikido New Zealand today proudly announces the official opening of its first Ki Aikido Dojo in Auckland welcoming practitioners of all ages and fitness levels to its Grey Lynn location.
This marks a significant milestone in Auckland’s martial arts and wellness community, introducing a practice that blends traditional Japanese martial art with modern mind-body development techniques for everyday wellbeing.
Ki Aikido is a unique martial art that evolved from the teachings of Koichi Tohei Sensei, integrating Aikido with Shin Shin Toitsu Do — a discipline focused on mind-body coordination and mental calmness. It offers a non-competitive training environment designed to help participants build confidence, manage stress, and improve physical and mental resilience in daily life.
Key Features of Ki Aikido Practice:
- Mind-Body Coordination training that enhances relaxation, posture, and focus.
- Aikido techniques practiced from a calm and coordinated state, refining physical responses through movement.
- Breathing and meditation exercises that promote mental clarity and wellbeing.
- Inclusive and supportive environment suitable for beginners and experienced martial artists alike.
“This dojo is a place for personal individual growth, health, and mindful physical practice” said Cristian Filimon Sensei, head instructor and founder of The Association of Ki and Aikido New Zealand. “Ki Aikido isn’t just about self-defense techniques; it’s a lifelong art that helps people move through life with calmness, confidence, and clarity.”
The first club of the Association is named Dokkodo which means “The path I walk is mine alone ” inviting students of all ages to take ownership of their personal development and gain the skills and mindset to make positive changes in their lives.
