Sweat That Saves Lives: UNICEF and Les Mills Unite Kiwis for Workout for the World

UNICEF Aotearoa and Les Mills are calling on New Zealanders to get moving by taking part in Workout for the World, a global fitness fundraising campaign raising money for children affected by conflict, crisis and disaster around the world.

The campaign aims to raise vital flexible funding for UNICEF, enabling the fastest and most effective humanitarian response possible. Les Mills, which partners with 20,000+ fitness clubs in over 100 countries, is supporting its club partners to host Workout for the World events on 20 June. These special workout events will bring together exercisers in all corners of the globe to support UNICEF's life-saving work for children.

In New Zealand, Les Mills clubs will run Workout for the World classes, with people encouraged to take part by making a donation. Events are open to anyone who wants to participate, whether or not they are a gym member, providing a simple way for people to support UNICEF’s work for children.

“What makes Workout for the World so powerful is that it turns everyday action into real support for children facing extraordinary hardship,” says UNICEF Aotearoa Chief Executive Susan Glasgow.

“When conflict or disaster strikes, UNICEF needs to move fast. With flexible funding raised through initiatives like this, our global teams can deliver emergency supplies within 48 hours and respond immediately – getting clean water, healthcare, nutrition and protection to children when it matters most, whether that’s following a devastating cyclone in the Pacific or in areas of conflict like Sudan.”

Workout for the World builds on a long-standing partnership between UNICEF Aotearoa and Les Mills International, which began in 2017. Over the past eight years, the partnership has raised more than USD $2 million to support children worldwide, grounded in shared values of wellbeing, community and long‑term impact.

Les Mills International Chief Executive Phillip Mills said the campaign shows how organisations can mobilise their communities for good through this type of partnership.

“We reach millions of people around the world every week through fitness, and with that comes responsibility,” Mills says. “UNICEF is a trusted humanitarian organisation with the scale and expertise to turn collective action into real outcomes for children. Workout for the World is about using our global reach to support something that truly matters.”

Workout for the World aims to raise more than US$1 million to support UNICEF’s life-saving work for children.
