As the days begin to lengthen and the first signs of Spring emerge, nature invites us to do the same: clear away what has accumulated over Winter, create space and begin again. In Ayurveda, Spring is traditionally considered one of the most beneficial times of year to cleanse, making it the inspiration behind our upcoming Spring Reset Ayurvedic Day Retreat at Kula Muriwai.
Just an hour from central Auckland, Kula feels a world away from everyday life. Set amongst the rolling green hills of Muriwai, with sweeping views towards the wild West Coast and Tasman Sea, it offers a beautiful setting to pause, breathe deeply and reconnect with yourself and nature.
Ayurveda teaches us that we are intrinsically connected to the rhythms of the natural world. During Winter, we naturally turn inward, eat heavier and more nourishing foods and often move less. As we transition into Spring, the Kapha qualities of heaviness, moisture and stagnation can begin to accumulate. We may notice sluggish digestion, congestion, low energy or a general feeling of heaviness. Spring is therefore the perfect time to gently stimulate the body, rekindle our digestive fire, or Agni, and release what we no longer need.
Our Spring Reset retreat has been created around the theme Cleanse, Release, Renew, exploring cleansing not only on a physical level, but also mentally and emotionally.
We begin the day in Kula’s beautiful yoga shala with a cleansing Yoga practice designed to awaken the body, stimulate circulation and digestion and encourage the release of stagnation. From your mat, surrounded by expansive views of the hills and ocean, there is an immediate sense of space and perspective.
Following an Ayurvedic welcome drink, I will share practical teachings on seasonal cleansing, digestive health, Ama or metabolic waste, and simple Ayurvedic practices that can be incorporated into daily life. We will also explore Panchakarma, Ayurveda’s traditional system of deep cleansing and rejuvenation, and how this ancient therapy supports renewal of body and mind.
Food is, of course, an important part of Ayurveda. At lunchtime we will gather for a freshly prepared, plant based Ayurvedic feast using seasonal ingredients and digestive spices. Weather permitting, we will eat outside overlooking the spectacular West Coast landscape, slowing down and enjoying both the food and the company.
In the afternoon, our focus moves towards emotional release. We begin with gentle Qigong before moving into guided conscious breathwork for somatic emotional release. These complementary practices encourage us to connect more deeply with the body, release held tension and emotions, and create space for something new.
We finish our day together with time for reflection and integration before returning home.
Spring Reset is more than a day away. It is an invitation to step out of the busyness of everyday life and consciously welcome a new season feeling lighter, clearer and more connected.
A day to cleanse. A day to release. A day to renew.
