Ponsonby News unreservedly apologises to Mr Bruce Robertson and Mr John McCallum of Western Springs Speedway and Palmerston North Speedway Ltd, and retracts statements published on this website page made by an uninformed contributor in a letter published online under the heading “DODGY SPEEDWAY SCAM EXPOSED” during April 2025.
Ponsonby News accepts that certain statements or implications in the contributor’s letter lacked any factual basis or legitimacy. No attempt was made to contact Mr Robertson or Mr McCallum prior to publication for comment or to get accurate information about Western Springs speedway.
When alerted to the problem, Ponsonby News initiated an immediate investigation into the complaint and took down the contribution from Mr Foster made in the name of the SOS Western Springs Association, as it contained material that was clearly incorrect and/or defamatory.
The person who wrote the letter has not been permitted to run repeat contributions. Whilst it was not written or encouraged by anybody at Ponsonby News, as publisher we deeply regret the incident and lack of editorial oversight on this occasion.
We unequivocally apologise to Mr Robertson and Mr McCallum, their staff and family, for any embarrassment caused.
