Site Set Up

Great North Road between King Street and Cooper Street. 18 July 2025 – late September 2025

7am to 7pm, Monday – Friday
7am to 6pm, Saturday (as required)

Before main works can begin, new temporary road line marking will be installed to support traffic flow around our work sites. This will be done in one night shift 11:00pm – 5:00am, on Thursday 17 July 2025. This section of Great North Road will be closed to all traffic except buses during this time. There will be detours in place, please follow on street signage. This is not particularly noisy work but there will be vehicle movements and loading/unloading of trucks. This work may be postponed in the event of bad weather. We are unable to line mark when the road is wet so it will be postponed until conditions allow us to undertake the work.

Main Works – What to Expect

We will be installing new drainage, ducting, streetlighting, footpaths, cycle lanes, raised tables at intersections, bus stops and tree pits.

The current sites between Nixon Street - Mackelvie Street and Brisbane Street – King Street will continue as planned. An additional site will be added next to the King Street site, extending this to Cooper St. Our work sites will be in two locations:

  • between Nixon Street and Mackelvie Street, and
  • between Brisbane Street and Cooper Street.

There will be no entry from Great North Road into Cooper Street, Grosvenor Street and Beaconsfield Street. Please follow detour signs to the next accessible side street. See www.AT.govt.nz/greatnorthroad for details of detours. Bond Street will remain open to two way traffic but there will be some changes to traffic lane layouts. Please follow direction of onsite signage.

Traffic management between Nixon Street and Mackelvie Street will continue as previously communicated.

We will be working on both sides of Great North Road at a time. There will be one lane of traffic open in each direction along Great North Road around our sites.

Vehicle access to businesses and residential properties will be maintained and Traffic Controllers will manage access to properties next to our site.

Bus stops within our site will be temporarily closed and signage will direct people to the nearest bus stop. There will be some pedestrian diversions in place and no on-street parking within our work areas. You may need to park on your property or further down the road and walk to your property.
