Letter to the Editor - "safety improvements" for Great North Rd (GNR)

Letter to the Editor - "safety improvements" for Great North Rd (GNR)
Despite AT asking for input on their outrageous "safety improvements" for Great North Rd (GNR),  and getting feedback questioning why they would even think about closing off Grosvenor Street to traffic crossing GNR from Bond Street, I notice now that AT and their "make work" staff have closed that valuable and heavily used access / egress from Bond St into Grosvenor.

What a simply dumb decision!

Any resident of the north side of GNR all the way through Ponsonby to Westmere, Herne Bay, and St Mary's bay has benefitted by using that specific route for over 150 years, and in particular since the Bond Street bridge linking Kingsland, Eden Park etc was constructed.

Once again, without any attention to the actual desires of the commuter or local residents, AT staff in their blinkered determination to slow and disrupt commuters and local traffic have done the opposite of what the public asked for.

Let's hope that as soon as AT is disbanded, and their "safety" designers are put out to pasture, instances of stupidity such as this decision to close off access to one of the few local roads that ONLY local residents from the immediate surrounds use on a daily basis.

When they are gone, can we please have our intersection back again, for the benefit of all the local residents who use this valuable, safe and easy to use intersection?

How many accidents and DSI incidents have there been at that location ... Zero.

But still we must bow to the allegedly superior knowledge of "the "safety Gestapo" who always think they know best.

In reality, they don't know best, and don't live in the neighbourhoods, they are intent on ruining, even as their ship sinks!

The day AT is disbanded cannot come fast enough. Let's just hope that these same staff are not just reemployed by Council because there is "no one else" who can possibly do their jobs. A trained chimp would easily have avoided such a dumb, churlish and unnecessary decision.

If you are not adding value, you are adding cost - as the old maxim goes.

AT have added significant cost to all Aucklanders - and ZERO value. Enough!
