You may be aware that NZ Post plans to shut the small but busy Post Shop at 320 Ponsonby Road, Three Lamps, in July.
Their motivation is to make NZ Post "sustainable" (and more profitable for the government). But the Ponsonby shop is a vibrant nerve centre for businesses and residents in Ponsonby, and for non-car owners closure would mean a walk to the Herne Bay shops or Hardinge Street.
Closure would be a cruel blow for Ponsonby. Locals need to put pressure on NZ Post to call off its plans. Letters need to be written to Chloe Swarbrick and the Ponsonby Business Association, and of course NZ Post. As Ponsonby News Editor says, "this will be a huge loss to the community - we are in there almost every day. The team working there are always very friendly and helpful. What next for Ponsonby?"
