Music media veteran Grant Hislop launches new platform 'Mood'

Mood sets a new tone for music streaming: Music media veteran Grant Hislop launches new platform 'Mood' — combining streaming, shopping, and event discovery in a uniquely curated music experience.

Music just got a new home. From the founder of The Rock, former Warner Music exec, and co-owner of JuiceTV, Grant Hislop, comes Mood — a genre-defying digital platform that merges music streaming, video content, lifestyle retail, and Australasia’s largest event guide.

“Mood is a completely unique offering,” says Hislop. “Users can dig deeper into the music they love — watch a concert film, buy a T-shirt, a turntable, or find out what’s happening this weekend — all in one place.”

"There’s a new music-centric streaming platform in town—and it’s looking to change the game." Travis Johnson of Flicks gives Mood a spin.

"In the increasingly fragmented and soloed-off online world, finding music—old or new—has become a bit of a hassle. Yeah yeah, we have Spotify and YouTube, TikTok and X, but their algorithmically driven recommendations and feeds too closely to your tastes, giving you what the machinery thinks you want, but not necessarily what you need. It’s all pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, and numbered—but not curated. Whether you’re after new tunes or old bangers that passed you by, it’s increasingly tough out there.

"Well then, praise the Lord for Mood, a new and, to my jaundiced eyes, spectacularly impressive streaming platform dedicated to bringing the discerning fan a heady mix of music, videos, documentaries, and more. The brainchild of New Zealand music impresario Grant Hislop, the man behind JuiceTV, Mood aims to be a one-stop shop for music heads across Aotearoa and Australia, offering a panoply of genres, multiple music channels, concert films, merch, and an exhaustive gig guide.”

A 360° Music Lifestyle Platform.

At its heart, Mood delivers five curated music TV channels — including JuiceTV, The Greatest Rock of All Time (GROAT), and country station Big Rig — along with over 100 music documentaries, concerts, feature films, TV shows, and video playlists.

Mood also features:

  • Australasia’s largest gig guide with over 30,000 live events listed
  • A music lifestyle store, selling vinyl, merch, tech, and more
  • Full smart TV and mobile compatibility via iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, and more
  • Free-to-air and on-demand programming, including subscription tiers.

It’s Spotify with pictures. Netflix for music.

While many platforms chase algorithms, Mood champions curation. Hislop sees the platform as a cultural investment: “We’re not just broadcasting. We’re restoring lost music videos, producing live concert films, and giving new artists a real home.” The platform has already signed its first artist, In the Shallows, and shot two original concert films. It also plans to expand efforts to locate, restore and preserve heritage music video content that’s at risk of disappearing.

JuiceTV: A Familiar Face Reborn.

Originally launched in 1994, JuiceTV has been a staple of Kiwi music culture. Since relaunching the channel in 2020, Hislop has tripled its monthly viewership to over 600,000, offering a format free of genre and era boundaries. “Juice gives a platform to music that might not otherwise be heard. It’s 100% privately funded and plays at least 50% local content — Mood now takes that spirit into Australia and the future.”
