'This is not a retrospective' Founded by choreographer, creative entrepreneur and inspirational leader Neil Ieremia (ONZM) three decades ago with the motivation to provide a different perspective and fresh voice in the dance scene, Black Grace was born.
Drawing from his Samoan and New Zealand roots to create innovative dance works Ieremia has changed the face of contemporary dance in New Zealand and turned Black Grace into one of the most recognisable and iconic cultural brands.
30 years on, after countless domestic and international tours, international festival appearances, a New York residency and numerous accolades and awards, Black Grace kick off their 30th year with ‘THIS IS NOT A RETROSPECTIVE’, the ultimate interactive dance party at the Auckland Town Hall, Saturday March 22 – and YOU’RE invited.
With the help of some of Black Grace’s most awesome friends including the Black Grace Dancers, DJ Manual Bundy, Buckwheat aka Edward Cowley, NZ Trio, sound designer Faiumu Matthew Salapu aka Anonymouz, lighting designer JAX Messenger, and more to be announced, This Is Not a Retrospective promises to be an unmissable celebration where artists and audience come together in one epic dance party.
