Trauma Release Training in Bali: A Complementary Path to Ayurvedic Healing
Bali has a way of awakening the senses long before any healing begins. The moment I arrived, I was swept up in the island's vibrant energy - weaving scooters, the scent of incense from temple offerings, colourful flowers on footpaths, lush greenery, and warm smiles everywhere. Bali has always felt like a second home, a place where I instantly soften and breathe deeper.
Together with my dear friend Lisa Hamilton-Gibbs, founder of iCandy publishing, we embraced island life before our course began - nourishing food, restorative spa treatments, yoga overlooking rice paddies, and quiet moments in nature. There is something deeply healing about Bali itself, where spirituality and connection are naturally woven into daily life.
But this journey was about more than relaxation. We had travelled to study somatic therapy for trauma release and manifestation under renowned teacher Edwin Tan, founder of Buah Meditasi healing center. What began as professional training became a profoundly transformative personal journey into nervous system regulation, emotional release, and embodiment.
For years, my work through Ayurveda, Yoga Therapy, and Panchakarma has focused on physical wellbeing. Yet I increasingly saw how emotional stress, unresolved trauma, and nervous system dysregulation deeply impact the body and contribute to illness. Ayurveda has always understood that mind, body, and spirit cannot be separated, and this training brought that understanding to life in a new way.
Through Edwin's work combining somatic eye spotting, breathwork, Qi Gong, sound healing, and trauma release practices, I experienced firsthand how deeply emotions and trauma can become stored within the body. During the course, I witnessed extraordinary breakthroughs in myself and others. Layers of tension, grief, fear, and emotional holding carried for years gently began to release.
What touched me most was the reminder that healing does not need to happen through force. When given the right environment, the body already knows how to heal itself. Through breath, movement, sound, and safe connection, the nervous system can slowly return to balance.
This experience strengthened my belief that true healing must address not only the physical body, but also the emotional, energetic, and spiritual layers of our being. I feel grateful and excited to bring this powerful work back to Auckland through Ayurveda New Zealand.
Together with Lisa, we will offer one-on-one somatic therapy sessions for trauma release, as well as small group breathwork and emotional release experiences designed to create safe, nurturing spaces for healing and transformation.
Healing is not merely the absence of disease - it is a journey back to ourselves. Through Ayurveda, Yoga, Panchakarma, breathwork, and trauma release practices, my intention is to support people on all levels of wellbeing - physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual - helping them reconnect with a deeper sense of wholeness, authenticity, and inner peace.
Our first Breathwork for Trauma Release and Manifestation group session will be on 18 June at 6pm at the Life Centre on Jervois Road. For bookings visit www.ayurvedanz.co.nz.
