Auckland Live Morning Melodies marks 25 years with milestone 2026 season

Auckland Live Morning Melodies
Monday, 23 February – Monday, 7 December 2026
A much-loved Tāmaki Makaurau tradition is celebrating a major milestone in 2026, with Auckland Live Morning Melodies returning for its 25th season of monthly Monday morning concerts at the Bruce Mason Centre.
Running from 23 February to 7 December 2026, Morning Melodies has become a fixture in the lives of thousands of Aucklanders, offering affordable, welcoming daytime concerts that celebrate live music, connection and community.
An iconic part of Auckland Live’s programme, Morning Melodies is known for its relaxed atmosphere, loyal audiences and consistently high-quality performances. The 2026 season brings together many of the brass bands and ensembles audiences know and love, alongside special highlights marking the 25-year milestone.
For the first time, New Zealand Opera will open the Morning Melodies season, with Auckland Gospel Choir also making their debut in the series later in the year. Returning favourites include The Madeleines, AOTANGO Quintet, Kumeu Vintage Brass, NZTrio He Taonga Wairere, and the much-anticipated annual performance by the Royal New Zealand Navy Band, which consistently sells out and traditionally closes the season.
Auckland Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson says Morning Melodies is a wonderful Auckland tradition that brings music in many of its forms to Aucklanders and makes people smile. “Its success is obvious with this event operating for so long, bringing people together to enjoy beautiful music, good company, and a real sense of community. As Billy Joel says ‘no matter what culture you’re from, everyone enjoys music’ - so as one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the world, events like this are key to happiness. Congratulations to the team bringing Morning Melodies to Aucklanders, and here’s to the next 25 years.”
Daniel Clarke, Director of Auckland Live, says, “For a quarter of a century Morning Melodies has offered Aucklanders a simple but powerful invitation – to come together during the day, enjoy live music, and feel part of something familiar and welcoming. It’s a programme built on access, consistency and connection, and it continues to play an important role in the lives of music lovers across the city.”
Joanne Cole, Director of Artistic Planning & Participation, New Zealand Opera, says the organisation is delighted to be opening the milestone season of this vibrant Auckland Live initiative. “We believe opera is for everyone - it is simply storytelling through the power of the human singing voice. Community is our heart and audiences are our reason for being, so sharing our artform and talented singers in a relaxed daytime setting is a wonderful and welcome opportunity.”
Morning Melodies audiences are known for their loyalty, with many attendees returning year after year. Regular attendee Terry Rutledge, who has been coming to Morning Melodies for almost a decade, says the concerts have become a highlight of his month.
“I come for the music, but it’s also about getting out, seeing familiar faces and feeling connected. The concerts are welcoming, high quality and just the right length.”
Ticketing data also shows Morning Melodies is a highly social experience, with audiences typically attending with others and returning across multiple concerts each season.
The 2026 season continues Auckland Live’s commitment to accessibility, with concerts held once a month on Mondays at 11am, running for approximately one hour, and tickets priced at $7.14. Arrive early to enjoy complimentary tea and biscuits before the show.
