Anne Batley Burton - ONCE AGAIN A COUNTRY DIVIDED. . .

Anne Batley Burton - ONCE AGAIN A COUNTRY DIVIDED. . .

If dissension over the Treaty of Waitangi and the handling of Covid wasn't enough, Tama Potaka and the Government’s decision to put feral cats into  PredatorFree NZ2025 without ensuring the public are properly educated on the clear legal definitions between the different categories of cats, ie, Companion, Stray and Feral, has led to huge problems in the community.

The constant vilification and demonisation of our cats in the media is brainwashing people into believing cats are responsible for decimating all the birds in our country.

Coupled with that, members of the public are now taking this as a licence to kill and are taking their cat hatred out on people's pets and the  cats who through no fault of their own have become stray.

As The Founder and Chair of The NZ Cat Foundation and involved very closely with what is happening, I know that the cruelty and killing of our beloved cats has dramatically increased.

PredatorFreeNZ2025 has unleashed the fire and blood lust unfortunately inherent in many people which was just waiting to be ignited and this has created an enormous amount of cruelty and killing of animals, who are sentient beings, purely because they are not considered to be native to New Zealand.

Sadly, Auckland Council, in spite of all our efforts misguidedly put cats into the pest category and the Regional Pest Management Plan 10 years ago.
And although we were promised by various Councillors that this would not extend to urban and indeed general rural areas, but only apply to sanctuaries or ecologically sensitive areas, this has extended very rapidly into small suburban areas of bush now called ‘ecologically sensitive areas,’ so children, dogs and cats are unable to roam if they want to be kept safe and we are talking about suburban areas, not deep in the bush in the heart of the Fiordland.

We are talking about central and rural Auckland as well as all over NZ.

This movement i, of course, fuelled by extremely wealthy extremist conservationists whose dream is to bring New Zealand back as to how it was before we all arrived. However, in the suburban areas that is not ever going to happen, no matter how much killing they would like to do. Humans have already destroyed these areas chopping down all the trees, poisoning all the waterways with their deadly 1080 being thrown all over the country as well as the pollution from everything we do which is destroying our country.

Stop trying to blame the destruction in our environment on cats, please! So, now the Government and Tama Potaka have decided to put ‘feral’ cats into PredatorFreeNZ2050.

As if we don’t have enough cruelty and killing of cats — to date generally pets or stray / lost / abandoned which by definition are not ‘feral’.

These people don’t care what sort of cat it is, and are being brainwashed into thinking that cats are cruel predators and killers of millions of birds and other native species every year! (Not sure how they calculate those numbers.) And they take a gleeful delight in killing them. They don’t care if it’s someone’s pet and family member or a poor cat who through no fault of its own has become stray.

We now have little children  being de-sensitised to killing and, be quite clear, the real danger we have in our country is that we are breeding a bunch of killers!

Thanks to the New Zealand Government, overly influenced by wealthy extremist conservationists, through putting feral cats into the predator-free New Zealand category,  a bloodbath has been unleashed into our society, a bloodbath of cat killing.

And now, next weekend, as I understand it, we have once again the Canterbury Cat Killing Competition. What a disgrace to our society and our country.

This is not the country most normal people want to live in. This is NOT New Zealand.

I personally did my best to stop this outrageous cat killing competition started by Matt Bailey associated with the school in Canterbury around three or four years ago.  Young children out there thinking it’s a wonderful idea to kill cats, dragging them around thinking this is absolutely fabulous fun as well. Their parents are cheering them on as they drag poor dead cats around! My God, what has happened to our country? And the rest of the world is completely horrified!

You don’t need to imagine what the rest of the world thinks about ‘little old New Zealand clean and Green’ — it’s all in the news worldwide.

And regarding the Government which I voted in…

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?

Do you not realise how many people have cats and how much they love them? They are part of their family!

I assume you have no interest in becoming voted in as the next Government in the next election because there are millions of cat lovers out there who are so angry and upset with your stance. They may not be extremely wealthy people who fund PredatorFreeNZ2025but they are VOTERS!
So put your thinking caps on and get with the programme.

If you want to get in, be smart and change your attitude. Take cats of all kinds out of the PFNZ2025 programme and start using your brains.

Start here. Use our taxpayers money sensibly and start with EDUCATION-DE-SEXING- MICROCHIP.

And make it FREE or at least heavily subsidised.

And remember KILLING is NOT the ANSWER. Apart from the cruelty, just take a moment if you don't already know, to google ‘the vacuum effect’ and ‘the meso-predator effect’ which will make you understand why killing doesn't work.
