Award-Winning Design Meets Mixed-Use Innovation in Auckland’s CBD: Templeton Group’s ABSTRACT development in central Auckland has been recognised across two separate categories at the 2025 Property Industry Awards.
ABSTRACT received an Excellence Award in the Hawkins Multi Unit Residential category along with a Merit Award in the Holmes Group Tourism and Leisure category
Located at 8 Upper Queen Street, ABSTRACT is a hybrid development that offers 273 units of accommodation, combining hotel-quality service with long-term leasing. Designed with hospitality, co-living, and urban regeneration in mind, the building is part of a wave of innovation reshaping the Auckland city fringe.
It marries the convenience of hotel amenities with the shared social warmth of co-living spaces. Designed to meet the different needs of guests and residents, ABSTRACT’s flexible living arrangements feature versatile spaces for meetings and events and communal areas like the Winter Garden, Library, Terrace Bar and gym alongside hotel-quality amenities like Alla Prossima restaurant and Sa-Ni spa.
Marked by the attention to detail in palette and texture that characterises Templeton developments, ABSTRACT also features many contemporary New Zealand art and artifacts, echoing the multi-faceted creativity to be found in K'Rd, just outside its doors.
“It’s rare for one project to be recognised across two such distinct categories,” said Nigel McKenna, Templeton Founder and Chairman. “That tells you everything about the versatility and ambition of this design.”
ABSTRACT was developed by Templeton and designed by a collaborative team including Paul Brown & Associates, Izzard Design, Macintosh Harris, C Nott Architects, and The Art Dept.
