Abstract appoints Juan Isola as new Food & Beverage Manager

Abstract Hotel is pleased to announce the appointment of Juan Isola as its new Food and Beverage Manager. Juan’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Abstract and flagship Italian restaurant, Alla Prossima.  

With a dynamic career helming hospitality at some of New Zealand’s finest hotels, Juan brings a wealth of operational experience, service excellence, passion and creativity to Abstract. Renowned for his innovative experiential activations and strong leadership skills, Juan is eager to push the culinary team at Alla Prossima to new heights.

His impressive track record in luxury hospitality, passion for exceptional guest experiences, and people-focused leadership style make him a perfect fit for our team. As we continue to grow Abstract and Alla Prossima as premier hospitality destinations in Auckland, Juan’s expertise and energy will play a key role in elevating our food and beverage offering and creating memorable experiences for our guests.”

Juan began his Aotearoa hospitality career at the Hilton Auckland, where he was quickly awarded Hilton’s Team Member of the Month – an accolade bestowed by both his peers and superiors. Following this, he successfully helped launch ‘The Rum Pairing’ at the Park Hyatt’s Captain’s Bar, a rum-tasting experience that cemented the establishment as a prime spot within Auckland’s hospitality scene.

Most recently, Juan oversaw daily operations at five-star boutique hotel, Rosewood Kauri Cliffs. His stewardship included hosting and managing large-scale events, providing a consistently refined guest experience and also putting his flair for mixology into practice when the occasion arose.

Juan’s values align with the family-oriented, people-focused environment at Abstract and he resonates strongly with the character and style of the boutique hotel. Of his vision for Alla Prossima Juan says, “My goal is that Alla Prossima becomes a must-visit destination in Auckland; a place to enjoy a five-star experience on an affordable budget. I’m looking forward to being part of the journey as well as motivating my team and connecting with our customers.”

Argentinian with Sicilian and Genovese heritage, Juan is passionate about Italian food and is thrilled to be managing a 100% Italian restaurant for the first time. “I’m looking forward to giving people that nostalgic taste when they dine with us. For me, food is about family and making memories.”

In his free time, Juan likes to dip his toes into K’ Road and the wider Auckland gastronomic scenes, as well as surfing at Piha in the summer and snowboarding during winter. As a self-confessed “negroni guy”, he’s also always on the lookout for the city’s best.
