Grumley + Company is a leading business advisory firm that has guided over 200 New Zealand and Australian enterprises through strategic growth and transformation. Designed by Studio 11:11, the new headquarters in Ponsonby, Auckland, is a reflection of Founder Toss Grumley’s deep commitment to creativity, excellence, and aspiration.
At the heart of the concept was a desire to reimagine what a business advisory office could be. Rather than a conventional corporate environment, the strategy centred on creating a multifunctional, human-centred space that reflects the intellectual and creative values of the founder, Toss Grumley.
In the reception area the sleek metal cabinetry is flanked by chunky columns in a custom-made gravel and microcement finish. This aims to create the sense of a domestic living room, displaying a collection of books, objects and art works that spark meaningful conversations.
The dark interior throughout gives a comforting sense of retreat. It feels naturally intimate, as the shadows and rich tones foster a sense of enclosure and privacy, making occupants feel more grounded, focused and connected to the space. The walls are punctuated by Grumley’s impressive personal art collection, anchoring moments of pause and intrigue throughout.
The space also showcases a curated collection of local artisan products, finishes, and furniture, each with a distinct story, yet thoughtfully unified in a narrative-driven design.
A series of sliding metal screens around the boardroom provide both flexibility and functionality, allowing modulation of transparency and privacy as required. During events, the screens and glass doors retract, opening the floor plan to create a spacious, unified environment, with a single marble column serving as a striking central focal point.
This space acts as a physical expression of its founder’s character and philosophy - contemplative, refined, approachable, and subtly unconventional. More than just a place of business, the Grumley + Company headquarters is a space of inspiration and aspiration. When you walk into the room, you immediately understand that this is where ideas are elevated.
