Book now: Root-to-Petal @ Orphan's Kitchen

As of this week, Orphans Kitchen kicks off Root-to-Petal, a fortnight celebration of plants. Vegan and vegetarian dishes will be showcased across our breakfast, lunch and dinner menus.

We will prepare and plate vegetables with the same level of dignity that is so often bestowed on a prime cut of meat.

From Wednesday 25 April to Saturday 28 April, Orphans will then take part in New Zealand's first ever 'restaurant swap'. Our kitchen welcomes Chef Alex Davies, from Christchurch restaurant Gatherings.

He will present Auckland diners with an inspired dinner menu, and we recommend booking early for this week. However, as usual a portion of our dining room is set aside for walk ins.

Chef Tom Hishon will be flying down to Christchurch to cook his own plant-based menu for those hungry Cantabrians. Tom and Alex share a complimentary outlook to how food should be grown and their approach on the plate shows the same respect.
When we first introduced Root-to-Petal in 2016, it was an idea that Orphans Kitchen explored as a singular restaurant.

This year, Gatherings (Christchurch), Sherwood (Queenstown), HillSide Kitchen (Wellington), Arbour (Blenheim) and Bistronomy (Hawkes Bay) have all decided to jump on board and will be introducing the concept to their diners.
