Sprouting Talent Wanted For Young Gardener Awards

Spring has officially sprung which means it’s officially growing season – but before you squeeze into your gumboots and rush out the door to get planting, don’t forget to enter the inaugural T&G Garden to Table Young Gardener of the Year Awards.

T&G executive general manager NZ produce Andrew Keaney says; “These awards aim to find five enthusiastic and passionate young gardeners who can not only talk-the-talk, but can demonstrate their love for growing fresh produce and creating delicious dishes.

“To help us find our superstars, we’ve enlisted help from chef and restauranter, Al Brown and gardening journalist and broadcaster, Lynda Hallinan, as judges.

“In addition to our five Young Gardeners, we’re also looking for a ‘School of the Year’ to take home a prize pack of gardening goodies - worth over $2000!”

Garden to Table Executive Officer, Linda Taylor says, “Our Garden to Table programme is changing the way children approach and think about food.

“All around the country, we’re seeing kids get their hands dirty and learning how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal food – and this is extremely important to help them make better food choices in the future.

“We are really looking forward to reading all the entries and hopefully our young gardeners of the year can teach all of us judges a thing or two about gardening as well!”
