Photography Exhibition: The Fleeting and the Abiding @Ponsonby Central

The exhibition The Fleeting and the Abiding brings together work by the Auckland-based, award-winning photographer Spid Pye, taken locally over the last few years.

Spid grew up on a farm on the Hauraki Plains with his 8 siblings and countless cousins. He was surrounded by real Kiwi characters, quirky humour and a healthy dose of banter. It all rubbed off on Spid and is still part of the package. Spid was largely self-taught until he arrived in London in 1993 and attended the Drill Hall Art School. When he returned to New Zealand he won a study grant from the Ronald Woolf Memorial Trust, which he used to study graphic and photographic design. He has won many awards along the way, among them are international awards in Communication Arts, Lürzer's Archive, Art Directors Club and Lens Culture.

Spid specialises in and loves producing character-based images and his photos celebrate the charming eccentricities of the subjects he shoots.
